What a co-op can be - The Wedge

Editor’s note: last week BethMarie used our site’s Contact mechanism to send a request that we study the very successful Wedge Co-op in Minneapolis MN. (We have some and met a few board members at the 2008 CCMA confernce.) At the suggestion of writing something about her experiences, she immediately(!) submitted the following.
Comment Responses #1
Some thoughts about our Co-op plans have come in to the web site and via emails. As the year is just getting started it seems like a good opportunity to address these. Maybe other readers are wondering about these same things. I'll send them out one at a time for the next few days.
The first came in as a comment on our mission statement...

Recent Progress!
Despite the busy holiday season, the Arroyo Food Co-op founding team has been making significant progress.
After the October 10th membership launch meeting we’ve tabled at three events (Art on Palm, Green Fair and twice at Equinox Gym), held two socials (Yoga House and Pinocchio’s Pizza), a team retreat, a house party and a volunteer orientation. This is in addition to our normal “office hours” most Friday nights.

A Very Good Start!

Thanks to all of you that attended, participated and joined at our two recent Arroyo Food Co-op events. Each time we had 50 or 60 people come by. It was exciting to learn of your enthusiasm for a community-owned grocery store!

Hungry for a better grocery store? That’s what we’re working towards - a neighborhood store that specializes in local, healthful, practical products. A store that you are part owner of, that listens to what you want, that allows you to take a role in shaping its future. A food cooperative does all this and more.
